Introducing The Lightkeepers!
A new online community committed to cultivating relationship with God.
Welcome to The Lighthouse! If you’re new, this newsletter is designed to help you develop a deeper relationship with God.
I’m Ryan Huguley, and I’ve spent the past 20 years helping people know God personally. I wrote a book called 8 Hours, or Less: Writing Faithful Sermons Faster. I pastor a Christian, non-denominational church called Formation in Salt Lake City, Utah, and I also serve as a spiritual director, which means I help people design their lives for a deeper relationship with God. Each week, I write an article and record a podcast here at The Lighthouse, exploring spiritual practices, practical theology, and the daily work of cultivating intimacy with God.
I’ve been writing The Lighthouse since September 2023, initially sporadically and then weekly starting this year. After two years, I’m excited to announce a new online community designed to help us better implement everything I’ve been writing about. Introducing…
The Lightkeepers.
Historically, lightkeepers played a crucial role in guiding sailors safely through treacherous waters and into safe harbor. They were responsible for maintaining and operating lighthouses, ensuring the light remained lit and visible to ships at sea, especially during the night or in poor weather conditions.
This concept inspired the creation of our new online community. I started The Lighthouse to help guide people home to God, and The Lightkeepers, or Keepers, will take this vision one step further.
Here’s how it will work:
All subscribers will continue to receive the weekly article/episode, which will remain free for all. However, one month after publication, those articles/episodes will go into the archive behind a paywall.
For a small monthly or annual fee, Lightkeepers will gain access to three additional benefits:
The entire Lighthouse archive.
A weekly private thread with journal prompts and reflection questions to help you better implement what we’re learning together.
Access to the Lighthouse Lab—a monthly Zoom session where we’ll discuss and experiment with spiritual practices that help position us for a deeper relationship with God. We’ll also have time for an open Q&A where you can bring your best questions and I’ll bring my best answers.
The subscription costs $5 per month or $50 per year. If you really love The Lighthouse, you can join The Lightkeepers as a Founding Member; I’m suggesting $100 per year for that, but you’re free to name your own price. All founding members will receive a free one-on-one spiritual direction session, a signed copy of my book, and my endless gratitude ❤️.
All that being said, it’s important to me that The Lighthouse remains accessible to everyone who might benefit from it. So, if you’re in a season of unemployment, a broke college student like I was, or can’t afford it for any reason, simply email me for a comp subscription—no questions asked.
I deeply believe that most people of faith have settled for what I call “God at a distance.” We often find ourselves merely reading an old Book without truly experiencing the God it describes. We speak prayers into the void but hear nothing in response. Our Sundays are filled with sermons and songs, yet we walk away unchanged and uncertain if any of it is even true. We resign ourselves to accepting this as life with God: an old Book, one-sided prayers, endless church services.
Deep within, we know there is more. The good news is that this longing is confirmed by that very same old Book. God desires for us to experience Him through the pages of Scripture. He longs to engage in conversations with us about the deepest aspects of our lives. He yearns to shape us in His image and to establish a profound, healing relationship with each of us—including you.
This healing relationship doesn’t just happen. We have to be positioned to experience it. My singular desire with The Lighthouse is to help as many people as possible do just that.
So to those of you who have been reading or listening to The Lighthouse for the past two years, thank you. You’ve been such an encouragement to me personally. For those of you that are new, welcome. It’s an honor to have you. Regardless of whether you choose to keep reading for free each week or pay and become a Keeper, I’m humbled to have you along and look forward to all God has ahead.
