Amen!! Sabbath has been a part of my entire life, and I literally think my brian has been rewired to shut into rest mode. It has saved my life! A gift. Abraham Heschel is brilliant and i love his metaphor for our Cathedral in time!

Heschel has been so helpful to me in this front. A woman at my church taught on sabbath yesterday and quoted him:

“If you work with your hands, sabbath with your mind. If you work with your mind, sabbath with your hands.”

Loved that counsel

Rest is a means to the good life. Sabbath makes it much deeper and in tune with how God has made us to live. Love this piece brother!

“Rest is an act of resistance.” This reminded me of a sentiment shared by Mark Buchanan in his book, “the Rest of God”. One of the things he talked about was this idea of stealing back time from our daily hustle in order to Sabbath. In my mind I see one child take a toy from another and rightfully, and maybe a little smugly, the child takes back the toy with a triumphant smile and the approving nod of the onlooking adult.

No more slavery. ♥️ Just joy.

Completely agree!

I wrote on a similar topic: that observing a Sabbath can increase happiness — because it’s a form of time-blocking that which is truly important in our lives.

Let me know what you think!
